National Floral Design Day is an opportunity to recognize those professionals who have dedicated their lives to making the world a little more beautiful for others. On this day dedicated to our industry, Campbell’s Flowers would like to recognize a very special member of our staff. Chances are excellent that if you live in Pueblo, you have seen her work everywhere from kitchen tables to corporate events.
In honor of Floral Design Day, we’d like you to meet our designer Mardi.
Mardi started her career at Campbell’s Flowers in 1977 as the gift shop manager. Over time she began to work more with cut flowers, and it became evident that she had a keen eye for design. It wasn’t long before she began working exclusively in floral design, specializing in weddings and large events. Things have changed a bit during her 40 years with Campbell’s Flowers, including her son Zachary assuming ownership of the business – making her career a true labor of love and loyalty. We asked Mardi to share some of her favorite things:
What Are Your Favorite Flowers to Design? “My favorite flowers to create with are gerbera daisies and curly willow. The gerberas are stationary and symmetric, while the willow brings movement and flow to my designs.”
Is There A Particular Type of Design You Love? “My favorite design is built around a wildflower palette. I love the natural feeling of nature suspended in space. We are located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, and the wildflower look – showcasing multitudes of color and free-flowing form – evokes thoughts of a mountain landscape in spring.”
What Do You Love About Your Job? “The relationships that have formed over the years, both with staff and with customers, is what I enjoy most. Working closely with people every day, you begin to think of them more as my family than as co-workers. I also love being a part of my customer’s big moments; their weddings, the birth of their first child, memorable birthdays, anniversary parties, even the death of a loved one. All of these junctures in life are both personal and emotional, and I find it amazing that I’ve had the chance to share these times with faithful customers.”
Anything You’d Like to Add? “The beauty of nature is inspiring on so many levels. The fact the I get to work hands-on every day with some of it’s most beautiful elements is a true joy. As florists, we are surrounded by visual beauty every day, but the most beautiful thing we see is the wonderful smiles that result from a sincere gesture. People love to know that they are cared for by others. When that thought is accompanied by a beautiful arrangement of flowers, people can’t help but smile.”
It’s easy to see why Mardi’s designs are so amazing – she pours her heart and soul into every single arrangement and truly cares about her customers. At Campbell’s Flowers, it is our pleasure to introduce you to the smiling face behind the beautiful designs. You can be assured that no matter your reason for calling us, your flowers will be delivered with passion, dedication, and love.
* Mardi is married with two adult children. Daughter Megan holds a Ph.D. from Brown University and is currently running a virus research lab in Heidelberg, Germany, and son Zachary is the owner of Campbell’s Flowers and Greenhouses. She is especially proud of her 9 wonderful grandchildren.
